[NEW YORK] - UTSAV: Reasons to love Indian food!

Utsav Indian Restaurant is an Indian restaurant situated in the heart of midtown. The restaurant is close to major landmarks in town such as Rockefeller Center and Times Square which is very convenient to go to.

The word "Utsav" has a meaning of Festival in Sanskrit, and the restaurant itself is an upscale place for genuine Indian cuisines. I like the interior design very much, everything looks so classy and elegant.

I'm very impressed by the Broadway Prix-Fixe menu - a wonderful 3-course meal costing only USD$38! Yet before we begin exploring the dishes, we ordered some IPA to freshen up a little bit.

This All Day IPA is brewed with a complex variety of malts, grains and hops. It is very aromatic and has a crispy texture, it matches the dishes a lot owing to its strong flavour.

Samosa

Starting with appertizers, Samosa is a traditional Indian fried dish with masala potato, green peas and cashews as filling in the form of a crisp pastry. It is served with mint chutney, it's slightly spicy but very flavorous. The pastry is sturdy and crunchy. There are many combinations regarding the filling, and Utsav has its own mouthwatering recipe. I'm impressed by its light and nongreasy texture.

Bengali Mustard Shrimp

Sauteed shrimps are cooked with coconut milk, green chillies and kasundi mustard. This is an unforgettable dish I have never tasted, it is full of spices in just one bite and you simply cannot resist!

Entree time! How awesome it is to have a whole table of colourful Indian cuisines. We have chosen Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Roganjosh for the night. Curry all the way!

Chicken Tikka Masala

Tandoori chicken tikka is cooked with tomato cream sauce that is rich in texture and flavour. It has a perfect proportion of cream and tomato and a good balance of the sweetness and sourness and it really stimulates the appetite a lot. The amount of chicken meat is decent as well. Make sure you try this when you visit Utsav. It just so addictive as it is packed with flavour. I just couldn't stop eating this, truly outstanding.

Lamb Roganjosh

Lamb Roganjosh is slow cooked so the lamb can keep it tenderness. The creamy, lingering flavour of the curry will leave you wanting for more. The rich layer of flavour is magical. Both dishes are served with steamed rice and naan bread alongside the vegetable of the day and lentils. The portion is really satisfying and so as the quality.

Malai Kulfi

This is my very first time to try traditional Indian ice cream. The presentation is beautiful and the texture is really special, it's almost like pudding as it is much creamier than normal ice cream. Besides, the raspberry sauce neutralises the sweetness of condensed milk.

Utsav serves a range of delightful Indian dishes wallet-friendly. The dishes may look humble, but they tastes absolutely beautiful! If you are looking for some authentic Indian cuisines in New York City, Utsav is my recommendation!
